Living History Friday; Home Guard
Date: March 31, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Staff and volunteers will be dressed in Civil War Era attire and describe to visitors what life would have been like between 1861-65. The Home Guard is the focus of the final program. Home Guard and militias played an important part in the conflict, serving as railroad guards, helping to round up deserters or shirkers, and offering a way for wounded or sick men to serve, but not at the front. Visitors will learn about the different types of home guards that were mustered in by the state including the Senior Reserves & Junior Reserves and how the roles they played changed over time.
