250th Commemoration:Military Impact on Local Economy

Date: February 21, 2012 Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Event Description

February 21, Tuesday, 7pm. “Military Impact on Local Economy”, the second in a 14-part series on  Defending Our Country: Military Impact on Kinston – Past and Present”. Rarely does one consider the economic impact of the military on a community. Or even realize how much the military impacts our community today. Did you know Kinston Jetport started under the USMC as a flying training airfield built in 1944?  Creating almost a city unto itself just to operate it. Many of our residents worked or trained there. This panel discussion covers the enduring local benefit economically derived from the military over the last 250 years.  From the Revolutionary War to present day engagements, these panelists present the impact from businessmen’s and veterans’ perspective. Share your experiences and knowledge with open dialogue with panelists. We look forward to your participation whether engaging in dialogue or purely spectating!

This follows the program hosted by Reece Gardner airing Feb 14, 9pm; Feb 16 11pm; Feb 19 10pm; then available on demand at www.tacc9.com/ReeceGardnerHour.htm. Ret. Master Gunnery Sergeant Charles Kienast(USMC) created these programs. Panel guests were Veterans, Fred Hunneke, Herman McLawhorn, Bill Dyer. And Harold McKinney.

Be certain to visit the Military 250th Exhibit February 13 through February 29 at the Schechter Auditorium. Veterans on hand to share their perspectives and answer your questions. Bob Hope USO videos played throughout the day. Neuse Regional Library is on our Historical Museum and Exhibit Trail.
